map and GRP tracking software for Panasonic Toughbook
Hope to be off to Africa in Jan and wanted to get a Panasonic Toughbook with intergrated GPS as a secondary map, rout planning, and route tracking system. Only problemis I'm lost for whay systme will run with it and what software has the best map detail.
I'll be in North West Africa to start, Morocco, Western Sahara, down to Mali and Senegal. Can anyone offer any advice or recomed a good set of map data/operating software? Cheers, Josh |
Hello Josh.
I use Garmin nRoute for navigation and Garmin Mapsource for planning. For Morocco and the WS, I would use Olaf's Map and for the rest maybe Open Street Map. All the above is free, you will have a problem using nRoute without a Garmin GPS but as I understand it this can be solved using GpsGate Client - Products - GpsGate.com |
Also look at "tracks 4 africa" for their map content. Loads of other travellers have uploaded waypoints and tracks. I've only used them for Southern African countries, but I think they are getting more of the continent covered.
