open street map
hi
when i export maps from openstreetmap the file comes with .osm extension. i would like to convert it to gdb for my garmin device. however, gpsbabel does not support .osm extension. do you know how can i convert .osm to .gdb? what is the trick? i cant export openstreetmap in .xml extension. thanks |
This site allows you to export to garmin format.
Worldwide routable Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap If you use it for countries with non-latin alphabet languages it "translates" text in maps to latin alphabet. But this is not always accurate. For Japan, it "translate" to Chinese reading. Japanese uses some of the same characters, but the reading is COMPLETELY different from Chinese. So, the text is just a waste of screen space. |
thanks chris. that is usefull.
so, i think there is no way to the maps directly from the openstreetmap.org. |
I have used the link posted above and had all the maps I requested in Garmin format with no problems. Not quite sure where your problem is?

hi
i've also used the link provided above and got the maps. no problem. i have just tried to obtain the maps directly from OpenStreetMap using export tab. however, the extensions was not suitable to convert them to garmin format. anyway the problem was solved. thanks |
