Soviet Military Maps - how they came about.
 

For map lovers a very interesting article on Wired.com - Inside the Secret World of Russia’s Cold War Mapmakers which relates some of the fascinating story of how and perhaps why these maps were made, puts them into the context of the times and how at the end of the cold war how they made their way to the West.

Also contained in the article are links to the vendors of these maps which I am about to peruse and perhaps place some orders!
