Spanish Maps
 

I`m looking for some Spanish & French maps which will show some of the "off road" tracks available.

Is there an equivilent to Ordnance Survey or something like that??

I've always got large scale maps locally when you know exactly what area you want to explore. I use hiking maps which show all of the trails. Whether it's legal to ride them is another question altogether. I'd just use the "I'm lost, can you help me" line ! Also they're not like the English, they're happy to let you enjoy yourself.

For Spain, the best maps to buy are the military maps, but if you're travelling longer distances, you'd have to carry a lot of maps!!

To search out all the dirt tracks I use Visor SigPac which is kindly supplied by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fish & Food. It uses a combination of military maps and satellite imagery and zooms in to 10m which is much better than any of the current satellite mapping sources (google etc) for Spain. The military maps show contour lines and altitudes etc and at 400m you can overlay the topo with satellite (and adjust the transparancy of the topo) to give you maximum info. It also give you X Y & Long Lat coordinates (though I've found them to be slightly inaccurate at times). It covers all of Spain & Portugal. Be patient with it. It can take a long time to load during working hours - best to study it in the evenings. If only the whole world were mapped like this :).
