These units look the same. They even have the same manual... But whats the difference ?? This one here is £75. Handlebar bracket Garmin GPS Street Pilot 26XX/27XX/28XX lockable 01-065-0066-0 Touratech UK Webshop This identical looking one is £110 Handlebar bracket Garmin GPS Street Pilot 26XX/27XX/28XX MvG lockable 01-065-0068-0 Touratech UK Webshop The expensive one says MVG ?? What is this. ? Thanks, Ed |
Don't know what the MVG means, though if you look at other units they say "MvG base plate (special vibration isolation)" (so MVG could be german for vibration) it's hard to see the diff. as one is holding a GPS and the other isn't. Though the MVG looks to have a wider stance maybe and the rubber shock bushings are larger.

The MvG bracket has larger softer rubber mounts to reduce viration. I think the MvG bracket also has a sligtly larger foot print because the rubber mounts are bigger.
Is it nessasary? i am not sure. Garmin units are made for motorcycles. I have never had a problem with the standard bracket. It is also easy to add a small padlock to the non lockable bracket which is just as sucure as the lockable bracket only cheaper. Steve |
I use the cheaper lockable one for my 2610. This rubber mounted anyway, so provides a degree of vibration reduction, along with the small amount of give in the RAM arm it's fitted to.
The MVG one seems like overkill to me, and if it's any bulkier than the standard one then you may have problems mounting it on some bikes. |
I`ve been using a Street Pilot 3 for a couple of years and 120,000k, it is mounted on the normal Touratech lockable mount which, because I have a 2004 BMW R1200GS, is mounted on the left hand mirror stalk. No problems with vibrations in fact it makes the mirror easier to use as the extra weight on the stalk damps out the normal road induced ones. However, it did require a small bungie to stop the mount from rotating whilst transiting ruta 40 although that might have been the wind. Ride safe.

Well, I went for the cheaper lockable one. It fits fine and holds the unit nicely. Im glad I didnt get the expensive one as it seems like total overkill now.
Cheers all |
