Zumo 500 & 550 discontinued?
Hi all,
Following some of the advice on the forum, I placed an order for an end of line Zumo 500 to find that all new stock has now been exhausted (in the UK). I also learned that the 550 is to be discontinued imminently and Garmin have already wound up production. Bugger. No word on what the replacement will be, but the range may be limited to the 220 & 660 for a while at least. To my eyes, these touch screen units don't appear to be as rugged as the 500 & 550 - what are they like in practice? Comments appreciated! Cheers, Andrew |
The 550 is still listed on Garmin's web site. The fact that it may or may not be about to be discontinued shouldn't matter, except you may be able to pick it up cheap.
I have a 660 and it feels very solid (& heavy...) The only prob. is it's pretty dear. Check out the Zumo forums. |
Looks like the Zumo 665 is the new top end.

My only issue with it is a more general software thing - I have a hell of a job getting waypoints and routes to transfer from my mac to the device - I really must be doing something wrong. Could do with a masterclass in Ripley (hint hint). m |

It works in the reverse too. Any routes, waypoints or tracks I build in the 62s can be be moved in and out of the 'G:\Garmin\GPX' directory. I've since installed an 8g SD card. My goal is to use the 62s for storage of my gps projects, bike manuals, photo backups and more. I hope that all makes sense. Could you do the same thing on the 660? daryl |
Ahh thanks Daryl - I'll give that a go - so far I've just been building the routes in Garmin RoadTrip and then 'sending' to the device. When I then look for the routes they're nowhere to be found :-/
I'll see if I can get the files out of roadtrip in a more manual format. At the very worst I'll manually create each days way points on the garmin each evening for the next day from my paper maps. The Garmin is only ever a guide and I use more to track where I've been than where I'm going - but sometimes it is nice to just sit back and be told where to go! m |

Try this: put your routes and waypoints into a file called temp.gpx and put it into the Garmin\GPX folder. When you disconnect the Zumo they should all appear.
