A lap of Africa?
Very early planning but I want to do a lap of Africa.
Has anyone here done it? I appreciate it will be a huge task to organise but I feel I need to do this. I will read through many of the threads here to get ideas on the where and how and have already looked to see that some of the countries are listed as DO NOT TRAVEL but surely there are ways and means? Will start in Cape town and most likely go clockwise. Really keen to discuss this with people that have done it or parts of it. Stay upright. Pete |
It has been done before, I think it was a South African on a bicycle but the problem now is no entry to Algeria also Libya and Somalia are warzones so not straightforward.

I did Morocco - Cape Town down the west coast and then back up the East to Khartoum in 2014 on a KTM990. As mentioned by another poster, the north African run looked unappetising.
Happy to share notes, routes, challenges, joys, etc. Good luck and, remember, just start...!! Charlie Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |
Please tell me more or maybe even PM your email addy?

-Cant cross Libya
-Algeria/Morocco border closed |
Starting in CT complicates things.
The way Charlie did it is your best bet, regularly done and with no really dodgy countries. As said, can't cross from Algeria to anywhere other than Tunisia, and you know the deal with Libya. |
Chris Scott is spot on... the 23 or so countries I crossed give a good flavour of the continent without too many people running around killing each other!

Might not be possible without stumping up a huge deposit for ethiopia, apparently there are some new rules, and they are not accepting carnets:

Not to hijack the thread but I'd love to know more about your trip. Planning the same route on the same bike next year! |
