Just came across this news, there appears to be a "ban on the movement of cars and trucks on unpaved roads in Bechar, Tindouf, Adrar, Tamenrasset, and Illizi wilayas, with 20 crossing points barred from vehicle use." see Magharebia.com. Does anyone have any experience of this?

I took contact with my Algerian friends to find out about consequences for tourism with you own vehicle but have no news until now - its too new.
Keep in mind that the ban concearns travel at nighttime " Army Command bans vehicles from remote Saharan paths at night across 6 southern provinces". See: El Khabar
