Any Brits applied for an Alg visa in UK lately?

If you used an agency, which one?

If you did it in person, was it at the consulate in Acton?

thanks

Hi Chris,

At one of my jobs we've sent circa 15 Brits to Algeria this year on tour, and yes all applications go via the Acton consulate now.

Some of the pax use Travcour to get the visa for them.

It has not been plain sailing for everybody though. Sometimes the consulate is taking up to 6-7 weeks to issue the visa, for others less than 2 weeks. There really does seem to be no reason for why the difference, as all pax have the same letter of invitation and trip itinerary, hotel bookings etc.

Thanks Dave. I used Travcour many years ago and recommended them to someone asking, but they were told they can't help (anymore) for the south.

I notice the reason they gave is actually now stated on the Travcour website:

If you are travelling to South Algeria, you must attend the embassy in person and we will not be able to assist.

Hard to think why. Maybe some Brit tourist/UK travel operator transgressed, or maybe there are deeper reasons?

Were your people travelling in the south, Dave?

The furthest south they went was the loop from Batna to Ghardaia across to Timimoun and up to Bechar - so no not properly south.

I just heard from Travcour:

The embassy has, in fact, removed the notice from their website, but it was in effect for visas being applied for travellers crossing the southern borders of Mauritania, Mali and Niger. We will, in due course, clarify if it is possible for us to assist with this area in the future, but immigration have not notified us of this yet.

Can't say I ever saw the notice on the consulate website but there it is.
Drama quite possibly over.

Interesting London report here from November

Could it be true? Will they make it easier to get a visa!?

Didn't this come up a few months ago?

Anyway, if they're going for the Saudi model it will be e-visas for fly-ins.
Lucky them, but I can't see self-drive overlanding returning to how it was in the 80s, unrestricted and unescorted..
Things will stay the same in the accessible parts of the Grand Sud, except that local agencies will get more fly-in work.
Which is probably the point.
