Arabic word for diesel ?
I'm preparing my 110 HT for a trip to Ghana and would like to write the Arabic word for diesel next to the fuel cap. Anyone know of where I can get hold of the word.
TIA Ian |
hi Jan
most of the time I heard "Nefta" but... read this! http://www.welcomehome.org/backcountry/fuel.names.txt |
it depends which "arabic" you mean , in Morocco it is definately "Mazout" which is a french word , and anyone understands it , in northern Morocco they might have a spanish name for it in their dialect instead but they must understand the french one ...

hi all
i belive here in egypt we use the word diesel,or sollar, and in arabic we write it like that ÓæáÇÑ SO I HOPE YOU CAN VIEW IT IN ARABIC NOW IF NOT EMAIL ME THEN I WILL ATTACH IT IN MAIL AND SEND IT TO YOU |
Spanish for diesel is "Gas-oil"
|
If you try to read the arabic signs normally, it looks like 'Iglo'.
(you can really recognise it) |

Brilliant, thanks for that.
Please excuse my ignorance, but would this be understood in all Arabic speaking countries? Thanks Ian ------------------ |
Pretty much.

I was very interested to see the Arabic word for Diesel, do you have the Arabic word for Petrol. My 1982 Series Land Rover is petrol and it is a constant battle trying to explain to petrol attendants that it is a petrol engine and not diesel. I have written "petrol" in English and "Essence" in French by the petrol cap but an Arabic word would also be good. Thanks v.Much! Andy |
I think that AB would be able to help on this.
See his post above Good luck Ian |
Andy,
Petrol is a generic name for the fuel that drives all modern combustion chamber engines and not necessarily only gasoline driven ones, it can also mean diesel driven ones. To be more specific you might want to use Benzene instead of Petrol, so people will not inject Diesel in your vehicle’s engine and screw it up. So in the Arab countries Benzene is equivalent to Petrol in the UK.. I guess. |

Brilliant offer, thanks.
I'm putting together in a Word/PDF file a travel document for the Land Rover: Make, Model, VIN, CCs, Owner and all the other bits that a customs post would want. I have it in English (of course), Spannish and French - to follow soon), but an Arabic version would be excellent. Anyone up for translating any other languages. Once they are available, I will put them up on my website for anyone to download. Best wishes Ian |
Just a question : What is SOLAR ?
I've already found this term in Lebanon and Egypt and I believed it was an other term for Diesel . Thanks for your replies . RR . |
Solar is equivalent to Diesel in many countries, although I do not know where this name came from. Another equivalent to Diesel is Mazout that you will find in many Arab countries with French influence.

Ian, if you buy an international registration document for your vehicle it will have all the details in pretty much all major languages including Arabic and Persian.
Its a good idea to put it on one sheet though for ease when talking to authorities. |
Where can I obatin an International Registration Document from?
I've never heard of them Thanks Ian |
