Atar/Chinguetti/Choum area
Hi, anyone have the gps points for:
Turn off from tarmac at Nouadhibou for the train 'piste' to Choum? Any nice circuits around Atar-Chinguetti-Terjit? Also, there used to be a good camping in Atar, is it still there? Cheers, Sam. |
There's a route description here:
http://www.sahara-overland.com/count...a-Route-R2.jpg but it goes from the border post (no via NDB) and picks up the railway at a village at PK55 (from NDB.) As far as I know Justus B campsite is still in Atar. Ch |
Hi Chris,
Cheers! Left your book at home, like an idiot! Got a loc for Julius? Anything for a nice route Atar-Chinguetti-Terjit (from Terjit we're headed direct for the road south of NKT). Thanks, Sam. |

True, we left there last monday (24 october 2011). In fact Bab Sahara is one of the last places still open and visited by travellers. They are trusted source of uptodate information (but I'm slightly biased). Although everything is calm, not many tourists in town. At the moment there are no restrictions but the gendarmerie aprecciate any information about planned routes and timeframes. Enjoy! |
We used Bab Sahara - very nice and very friendly.
Safe travels, Sam. |
