Bank Card and money in Morocco - Mauretania
Hello
Soon we will leave Mali and we will be heading to Europe. We're trying to plan our budget for Morocco and Mauretania. We have some beginners' questions; I have a debit card with Maestro written on it - can I use it in Morocco? Do they accept to change Cfa's in Mauretania? And does anyone has information on recent fuel (diesel) prices and the cost of camping (2 p., tent, car)? Can we pay for the ferry with a debit card? How much? Other expenses (border)....... any info greatly receiced! detnol - slowakije |
Hey there :-)
Debit Card - I had no problem using my Maestro card in most Moroccan ATMs - there were a couple that didn't work, but they were the exception. It's been nine months since I was there so my fuel prices are probably well off - I'll leave that to someone who's been more recently. Good luck and have a good trip. m |
It is best if you tell your bank or credit card company that you are off, out to Morocco or where ever you will be traveling to, if not they may stop your card after you have use it twice.( This happen to some that was with me in March this year) As there is some card fraud over there but its good if bank dose stop card working if you have forgot to tell them just shows that the bank is on the ball

Detnol,
just make sure you don't draw money from any ATM where you're going to stay overnight. Try always to use an ATM en route in case anybody is watching you. Lots of people loitering around in Africa. Not necessarily dangerous, but you never know. I once misregarded this and was robbed at night on a fenced in & guarded campsite in southern Africa. (Fortunately I was snoring happily, so no fight :eek3:) |
