benzin on "atar - tidjikja - oulata - nema"
 

Hi! We want to do pist "Nema - Oulata - Aratane - Tichit - Tidjikla - Atar - Chum - Nouadhibou" in start of february on our return from Bamaco. I am interesting on benzin supply for our 2cv on this way. Is it or is just a "disel area"?

There are normal gas station in Nema, Tidjikja and Atar. In Tichit you can by diesel from barels. I'am not sure for petrol.

i think petrol(and disel) is rare or no between tidjikja and nema. posebility is that petrol is avalable in tidjikja on gas station ("Mauretanie au gps"); if not than perhaps on black market.

No problem for petrol in Tidjikja and Nema. I was there last year. I know you can buy diesel in Oualata and Tichit on black market. Probaly the petrol too. Anyway,for 2CH you don't need it very much.

i asked a friend, Sidi from Tichitt, he says is very unlikely to find petrol in Tichitt, or if for some reason available it can be more expensive than whisky.

i'll try to be near Tichitt about the same time, or later, with the intention to recover my old petrol land rover, -after an small accident- now resting in RIM, and i'll carry extra of both precious liquids. I can share some of it.

I think we would manage 800 km from Nema to Tidjikja with our supply of petrol. Consumption of ca. 15 L/100 km brings out 120 L + 30 L extra (ca. 110 kg of necessary extra weight).
Armadillo I hope we meet somewhere on a road or in Tichitt. We will driveing 2CV with Slovenian plates. Stop us if you see us, we will have some good homemade "snops".

Call me unadventurous but my recollection of this route from 1988 (riding a motorbike and with a car with a guide inside) is that you will struggle in a 2CV. It took us 5 days with regular digging. The dunes west of Tichit are especially soft (but I suppose by then there is more traffic).
I presume you are not doing this route alone.
In case it is not obvious, IMHO Cyril's Sahara travels in his 2CV are quite exceptional and I suspect not easily repeated as a cheap and fun way of doing the Sahara.
But bonne route anyway ;-)

We're also looking at Nema/Tidjika for January. Anyone any idea on likely diesel consumption over the route for a 110 300TDI ? (obviously overloaded!).

How safe is it to count on black market fuel enroute? Doesn't sound too reassuring.

200 litres should do you easily to Tidjikja; not an especially huge load. The guy who logged the route for my book did not even mention fuel in Tichit. And as there are several wells along the route there is no need to carry heaps of water either which will all help with getting bogged less frequently.

You can buy diesel in Tichitt in the black market, but the availability is highly irregular, I was told back in 2003.

My Nissan Patrol (2.8D six) consumed about 19 litres per 100km in that piste (normal consumption in road: 12litres).

A 2WD is highly irregular for doing that piste, despite what Cyril Ribas has done in is 2CV. Anyway, be sure not go alone as that piste crosses relatively remote areas.

polpiskra, we plan to carry lots of gas for our thirsty old english friend, Tidjikja- Tichit, so if you need some we'll gladly share it with you, also got a zippo so we may also squeeze some gas out of it.
Sidi, from No Worry Int Desert Club (Nktt), is gonna come with his poweful LC, so he'll pull us out when the sinking happens. The m.f. just uses a few turbants for it. He is got a thuraya, i'll ask if i can send you his number.
