Best place for Mali Visas?

Hi Guys,
Where's the best place to get a Mali visa? We're going in January and will be a group of Brits from the US and the UK with some Yanks from the US. So the passport logistics is a bit of a nightmare.

Ideally we'd like to do this on the Mauri/Mali border if possible, and that's what we'll do from Morocco to Mauri. Other than that, any opinions (ha, asking you lot for opinions!) on where we should go?

Cheers,
Nick.

In Nouakchott you get them on the spot or at the latest after a couple of hours aand they cst well under €10. Nice people too.

In March 2001 I got one on the spot at the Mali embassy in Rabat (GPS Coordinate approximately N33 58.7' W06 50.0') for 250DH.

Also got one in Niamey in January this year for 20000CFA with a 24 hour wait.

Nice people also in both cases, they even spoke English.

Of course it might have all changed by now...

I heard that getting a visa for Mauritania in Morocco is pretty hard to get, and that it's advised to get a Mauri visa in your own country. Any experience on this? Where will you try and get the Mauri visa in Morocco?

Thanks,

Jef

Guys, thanks for your advice. That should makes things easier.

Jef, we're getting the Mauri visa on the border. It's probably 2x or 3x the price, but we're pushed for time and would rather pay than wait around.

But don't forget your "pressies" for the customs guys!

Cheers,
Nick.

Hi !!!
I dont think is a good idea -at all- .
Getting these days a Mauri visa in Casablanca is fast and straightforward. If arrive at the consulate at -say- 11:00h you get your visas by 13:00h for just 10 EUR .

At the border , things can be quite different .For a start , they are NOT SUPPOSED TO ISSUE VISAS , so - at the purest Mauritanian style - they can charge you "deppending on how rich you look". Period. I have seen people paying , from nothing , to 60 EUR at the border .
Secondly , if someone arrives without VISA at the border , they just "look to another place" , and let him in -for a "fee" - but He still doesnt have a visa (Supposed to go to Nouadibou , where - after all - you PAY for a "standard" visa (the one with the nice blue stamps in the passport) .
Without that , you are -then- in the hands of every corrupt policemen (that is , all ) which wants some extra money for you NOT having a valid visa.

-an that can be a nightmare-

Really , getting a mauri visa at CasaBlanca , is probabbly the easiest , fastest , cost-effective operation of all the trip. It takes a few hours (which allow for a fast tourist visit of the city.
Nice place to meet other overlanders also .

Hope this helps.....
