Could someone explain about the carnet please?
 

Could someone explain the concept of the carnet to me? (or give a link to a webpage with info); what is it for? I will be traveling from Holland to Ghana shortly and I understood that at the Ghana border I will need a carnet or pay heaps of money. Why? And do I need the carnet (or another one) for Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali or Burkina Faso?
I want to sell the car in Ghana, if possibel without a fuss, but if it is such a hassle, maybe I'd better sell it in BF or Mali?

Additionally I can tell you that you definitely do not need a carnet for Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal.

hi Kees,
you don't need a carnet the passage for the countries mentioned. if someone ask for it just tell them you are on the road to the next country. I was by car in Morocco, Mauretania, Mali, BF, Guinea, Togo, Benin and was never bothered. you'll not be able to sell the car in Ghana if it's older than 5 years? easiest is to sell it in BF or Mali. then go by bus to Ghana.
