Crossing from Egypt to Sudan
Does anybody have info about driving from Egypt to Sudan and then further south on bike?Any info on obtaining sudanese visa would be great! What fuel range do I need?Would it be a good time to go in November?
Thanks |
November might not be a more difficult time to go than at another time of year. Not because of weather or anything, but because the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan will start around November 14th or so.
This will cause delays at the border as everything slows down during the month of fasting. Border crossings will be more difficult and people sometimes become more irritable. However, visiting Islamic countries during Ramadan can be a fascinating experience as well. If you do decide to go then, show a little consideration for those around you who are fasting during daylight hours - it is very insensitive to eat, drink or smoke in front of them. You would get a chance to see another side of the Islamic world at this time of year, which might make the effort worth it, but be prepared for hassles and delays with officialdom. Good luck. ------------------ Jon Harbour Middle East Off-Roader http://www.mid-east-off-road.com |
The info I received last week was that still the Aswan - Wadi Halfa ferry is the only option. The Red Sea coast road crossing is closed for foreigners, but there are signs of thawing relations between Egypt & Sudan, so possibly things may change in the not so distant future.
