as far as I know the border has been closed for about 10 years and crossing illegally would be pretty risky as the two countries have been in dispute for even longer. I'm not sure if either army or police force would treat you too well. I'd plan on finding another route, but let us all know if you get through legally!

Bad news.Today i checked from the embassies of both Algeria and Morocco.Although Algeria says its open ,Morocco says its closed.Had to change my plans too.

Last year I went to Figuig, Morocco, and was promptly apprehended by the border police. I was politely escorted out of town in some haste…!
There was no chance of crossing into Algeria and I don’t believe anyone has in either direction for at least 10 years.
Notes on this trip (October – November last year) are on my website at http://www.kitmax.com/kitmax/kit12tr...04_morocco.htm
Happy travels

Even if you manage to cross the border illegally to Morocco w/o beeing stoped by one of the police/military patrols you will not be able to leave the country. You get a stamp in your passport that you imported a vehicle when entering legally. If you try to leave Morocco with any discrepancies in your docs they will not leave you out. Painfull and expensive consequneces programmed. Cheers, Kudi

I was in Fuigiug last May (2002). Stayed there little day and a night. I had a look at the border and could see Algerian villages but...
NO WAY you'll cross the border. Military are all over the area.
On the Maroccan side of the border I had 4 checkpoints between Figuig and Bouarfa.
Even if you would be able to smuggle your bike across there is still the problem about the stamps in your pasport. Riding it across is no option, military would see / hear you surely from there look out posts that are placed on the ridges along the roads here. The show up in the dark then you suddenly see little lights / fires on the top of the ridges nearby...
