Thanks Ursula, so to sum up:
Maroc 7dh/litre in greater Maroc 4.6dh in Western Sahara, but may be below 4dh in Layounne Mori About 250 oogs in NKT but around 220 in Atar - up to 350 or more in remote villages like Tichit. So that is as little as 27p in Layounne or as little as 44p in Atar. If anyone wants to know other Saharan countries I have updated these details (as well as the exchange rates for euros and GBP) here: http://www.sahara-overland.com/country You can also check the Saharan weather there too ;-) Ch (all prices approx and calcs unguaranteed) |
Diesel availability
What is the diesel availability in the Sahara/North Africa - is it as widely available as petrol??
I am looking at doing some desert riding on an experimental diesel bike.......... what an idiot? |
No problems
Generally, diesel is more easily available (and cheaper) than petrol. BTW I bet posters here would love to see some details/pics of your bike...
|
just what I wanted to hear!!
I have to keep bike details under wraps until we have something lined up. If it falls through I will be looking for some XT600's! |
These prices are for diesel, from March/April 07
Spain 89-90c Morocco 7.3-7.4 dirham (67c) Western Sahara 4.2-4.4 Dh Mauritania 224 Oog Mali 500-535 CFA (cheaper in no-brand stations) Niger 511 CFA Algeria 13.70 Dh (15c) Tunisia 0.74 dinar On our route (fairly typical one), the only problem with availability was in S Algeria, due to smuggling to Niger. Ain-Guezzaim - no diesel available even upon request to police. (Essence available with permit) Djanet - ok. Bordj el Haous - only on black market at double price (still cheap!) |

It was the same story in Bordj Moktar for Mali last December (although our guides wangled some off the pump attendant) so if coming up this way and planning to fill up cheap - take note or get your guide to being some down if meeting you in his car. Ch |
