Directions, GPS, Opening hours: Mauretanian Embassy in Rabat?
Hi
I found this address for the Mauretanian Embassy in Rabat, Morocco on a website somewhere. Is this correct? Do you know their opening hours? Any one got GPS coordinates or have directions from distinct landmarks in Rabat? Mauritanian Embassy 6, rue Thami Lamdawar Souissi B.P. 207 Rabat Morocco (+212) (537) 65 66 78 (+212) (537) 65 66 80 ambassadeur@mauritanie.org.ma I'll be visiting them to get a visa on my way south in December. What's required apart from money? How many passport photos? Anything else like a LOI or other similarly pointless Arbeitsbeschaffungsmasnahme? Thanks for your input. Chris (if you're in that part of the world around 20th Dec, look out for a beaten up black Honda Transalp.) |
An update to my own thread: Wasn't looking closely enough, but now found this:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ighlight=rabat where it says open Mon to Thur 9 to 11, drop off one day, collect the next. Anyone had the same experience? cheers Chris |

gimme gimme gimme
fwiw, I am informed there are now over a dozen checkpoints on the road from NDB to NKT which added up to 3 vehicle searches for one guy. It's possibly in relation to the security measures mentioned here but the situation is said to be more intimidating in a 'donnez moi' sense than a couple of years ago.
So if you're new to the area, brace yourself (and stick to your guns, IMO); it's less bad in west Africa. Ch |
I'd say let's all resolve not to give any other gifts than at the most a pack of cigarettes or similar.
There are billboards around the country proclaiming the unlawfulness of offering or receiving bribes. So there is an awareness of it not being acceptable. They will perhaps tell you that they're out of fuel because their tank had a leak or some other mishap and ask for a donation. Then explain how very much you would like to assist, but find it impossible to do so since it is against all laws. They searched our cars several times on this road, looking for booze so they could get a bribe (but they never found my malt ;)). I had in one suitcase one of those wooden snakes that really look and move like the real thing. An officer found it and by golly he jumped three feet straight up in the air! That made him give up the search. Wish I had had my camera ready. |
