disturbances in Tamanrasset
 

my friend said he had heard of disturbances in Tamanrasset. They were of a violent protest nature. Anyone able to add anything??

If you google.fr "Tamanrasset + émeute" [riots] you will find several stories. It's the latest expression of frustration that has been brewing for years in Tam (northern 'haves v local 'have nots') - there were less bad riots in Djanet following destructive flash floods and in northern towns too, I believe.

Thanks Chris. Been told that about 65 people out of 150 have been jailed in the aftermath. There were jail sentences ranging from one to three years.
People in Tamanrasset believe that there were some kind of 'agents provocateurs' connected to either the state or the wilaya....
