Do I need a Carnet for Saharan Africa
 

Hi Guys

Im British, riding an Australian registered bike and i planning to go to the Saharan countries this winter...

Do i need a carnet for any North african countries??

Only Egypt (expensive). All the others (Mk, Alg, Tuni, Lib) do their own thing re: vehicle imports.

Before you ask (as many do) you can't cross from Mk to Alg (+ Alg requires guides and NE Alg is dodgy) so best to start in Tunis and go east.

Are the rumours about egypt replacing the carnet with a 2000 euro bond true.
I think the idea was that on entry to egypt you pay a bond of around 2000 euro,s and it is refunded, minus some administration fee when you leave .
