Egypt, anyone entered from north with 4 wheels and no Carnet?
Seeing it has been shown to be possible to come into Egypt from the south without a carnet by obtaining a TIP. (Temporary Import Permit), I'd like to know what the possibilities are from the north; especially with a car/ van/ truck. Carnets are an insurance company's paradise; money for jam.
There must be someone who has done it!! |
Hi Aliprovidor,
I heard, that is possible to pay the import tax at the border, and (Inshallah) get it back by exit. Not sure, if it works. Came last week from Mongolia, nice country. Greetings Ferdi |
Yes, that is how it is supposed to be and at least two separate travellers have done this from the south to north borders but...... has anyone done it from the north?????

Not heard of it since before 2011, but better not to assume one rule works right across the country.
That is certainly what I found in Algeria with similar temp. importation discrepancies. And that country is much less 'flexible' than Egypt. I think very much depends on the Customs chief at the border post/province. |
