Egypt: Bringing a cycle as luggage and Buying Scooters

I have a new $1,000US, Specialized touring bicycle. When I move to Egypt in a month, can I bring that with me as luggage? I don't understand the import tax on bicycles. Is it better to have the bicycle in the box still new, with receipt and documentation? Would there be a large customs tax on that? Or would it be better for me to ride the bicycle, dirty it up, package it in a different box, and bring it with me as luggage that way, potentially saving me, or costing me additional fees?

I also have questions about buying a scooter. I would like to buy a new Honda 150 PCX 2019. I believe that is impossible with the two-wheel ban the Egypt government has. I have a hard time finding any information online for buying scooters. Do you know a reputable website? Are there any brands that sell new scooters in Egypt?

Who knows with Egypt, but I would have thought better to bring in a tatty looking bike than anything flash or new.
For scooter buying might be better off asking on the Thorn Tree. Expat's there will know the score.

Normally if you move there to work as an expat the company should be arranging the moving of your personal/household items, and these are usually (however you cannot take anything granted for Egypt...) duty free. A used bicycle should fall into this category, but you should double check with the moving company. To qualify however, it will need to be shiped in rather than arrive with you as luggage.
