Egypt visa at the border?
Is it possible to get a visa to enter Egypt at the Libya-Egypt border? How long is such a visa good for?
Thank you. |
I dont think you can, its painful enough with a visa... Just get one before you go there .
And if they turned you back, then what, how would you get back through Libya with no visa etc? A possible nightmare. |

Well Brits and most Europeans do - but it's still many hours of hassle (details below). An 800% carnet is needed too. Ch http://www.sahara-overland.com/country/egypt.htm |
Using the Tourist police as mentioned in Chris's link really made things smooth for me. He actually met me on the ferry and I just followed him around from office to office paying the various fees and collecting receipts. We never waited in line either, the tourist policeman just went straght to the front, so while it did take a while it was not nearly as bad as it would have been without him.
It's the worst border in Africa that I crossed, but it's not like it's Central America bad. |
No hassle and one month
Hi Monkii
Crossed the border last april and two years ago. The difference is unbelieveble. You wouldnt recognize the border. Now everything is smooth and you can get a visa for one month at the border. Easy extented in Luxor and a disaster in the Mugammabuilding in Cairo. Go for Luxor only two hours and pretty straightforward. The border crossing has Touris Police who will walk with you all the way, withoudt charging money. There are everywher signpost with the amount of money things should cost. So no haggling. The cost for the licenseplate are way lower than two years ago. Now 100 Us than 300 US. The lonely planet we had said that it is not possible to get a visa at the border. This is NOT true. Hi This recent experience seems interesting .... Is it an exception ? May be I'll try it next year , so recent similar experiences will interst me a lot Thanks in advance RR. |
no problems crossing the Egyptian border. We did it in august 07. You can get a visa on the border, but do not apear on the border without CARNET!!!!!! Crossing to Jordan was much faster, than crossing from Lybia to Egypt.
It took us 10 houres to enter Egypt, a tourist police was not speaking english. There were no signes or prices (at least not in english, we can not read arabic), but prices were reasonable - including diesel tax. You can change money on the border - no need to do it in Libia. Remember if you have all papers they will help you through, beacause they don t need you on the border. But in Egypt everything takes time..... Barbara |
Dear matafi,
