Egyptian Western Desert and Aswan - Wadi Halfa May 2013
 

Hi all

Any overlanders currently in Egypt and planning to either 1) do a Western Desert trip, or 2) head South on the Aswan - Wadi Halfa ferry in May?

I'm currently in Sinai. Planning to spend another week or so here, then Cairo for a few days, then Western desert for a week or so from around 8th May. I have some Egyptian friends who are helping me organise this with a guide for 3 or 4 days. He has contacts for diesel too it seems.

Would be good to hear from anyone interested in joining the trip, or anyone planning to tackle the ferry next month! Desert wise, no firm plan yet but Bahariya oasis and the White desert a definite.

You really don't need a guide for any of the Western Desert. It's beautiful & very easy. We have just done it in the other direction. As for fuel, it's easier to get in the Western Desert than anywhere else & you will find that people are perfectly happy for you to go to the front of the queue...maybe a little tip to the boss man to smooth the way, & people are very friendly about it. Our tip - fill up little & often. It's easier to go & ask for 30 liters than 100.
