Ferries to North Africa
Other than Spain to Morroco, are there any other obvious routes? I have heard that there are no longer car ferries from Greece to Egypt (now my preferred route) - is this true. Is it then advisable to go Marseilles/Genoa to Tunis and drive thru Libya to Egypt?
thanks |
With no RoRo currently going to Egypt, Marseille or Genoa to Tunis is your only choice.
I beleive there may be Tripoli ferries from Malta or something, but Tunis is an easy and regular run, and cheaper than going down Italy anyway. CS |
Thanks Chris
Do you know what the road is like from Tunisia through Libya to Egypt along the Med? |
There is one service still running, but it looks inconvenient: http://www.grimaldi-freightercruises.com/inden.htm
Strangely, passengers are not allowed to get on or off in Alexandria, but it looks like vehicles can. The timetables are too strange for me to understand. ------------------ Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise, Peter. |
Are you sure , Chris Scot ?
Is sailing by ferry from Genua to Tunis cheaper then driving down to Palermo ? And with the ferry from Palermo to Tunis ? Peter |
Some two years ago we travelled from Genoa to Tunis. The trip was booked through Tunis Travel in Amsterdam. They have send me their brochure for 2004.
A pdf-copy is available at: http://home.tiscali.nl/ffweg/Downloa...1579%20kB).pdf I hope this works. Safe travels, Jan Nouwens.
