Ferry to Morocco costs

Hi

Can anyone give me some up to date prices on the ferry to morocco (Algerceras to Ceuta ?)

Also of interest is how they treat tall vehicles. Chris's book says that most of the time they don't care about height of vehicle

But I cannot sneak thru as the vehicle is 8.5 ft tall (2.7M) and painted bright orange with black stripes so it stands out just a
bit
We are going over early october which isn't a busy period I think

Do you need to book or can you just turn up ?

Thanks for any info

Rich

Check the Euroferrys web page (www.euroferrys.com) for prices and timetables. You may buy the ticket at the time, no need to book in advance.

Cheers,

Hello,

We, myself, my girlfriend and a friend, have just spend 4 weeks in Morocco. We've took the ferry between Algeciras and Ceuta. This was a busy period but we didn't had to reserved the boot. When you arive neer by Algeciras al shops sell the tikets. They all sell the tickets at the same price so its very easy to get one. We've took the fast ferry, witch cost a little bit more but in a half hour we were in ceuta. The price of the ferry, for 3 persons and a landrover Defender 90, was about 250 Euros, for the 2 way trip. Hope this helps,
Greatings,

Hi
just got back from 4 weeks in morocco with a Defender 110. The return cost for 2 of us with the 110 was £103, bought at a shop in Algeciras. This was about half the price the many ticket touts were quoting us in the docks. With the roof tent and loads of stuff on the roof rack, we were just over 2.7m, but the chap in the ticket office said it didn't matter and charged us the standard car rate. This was for the fast ferry and it took about 45mins all in.

Just wanted an update on pricing and recommendations, if anyone has recent news? Other things being equal we'd prefer to go to Ceuta, as I believe fuel there is cheaper.

We are going to Morocco in a week's time (departing 18th Oct from Nottingham), for three weeks, in a party of 3 vehicles, 6 people.

Land Rover Discovery (Diesel)
Jeep Grand Cherokee (Petrol/LPG)
Land Rover Defender 150 6x6 (Diesel)

The idea behind the trip is primarily as a field test the 6x6, in readiness for a RTW trip departing in April 2003. (Well, ok, we also love the desert!)

Any up-to-date info would be welcome, as we don't know Morocco specifically.

Regards,

Michael...

I went through Ceuta (on a bike)last April. It was my first time and I was a bit shocked at the sheer amount of people shouting, pushing and begging. I managed to shoot straight through the Spanish customs point by accident and straight into the arms of a man in a dress (no uniforms for Morroccan custom's officials it seems) who proceeded to get money off of me(bribe?)to fill in a form which is printed in English as well as French with very easy questions. as soon as they clear you and send you past the barrier into morrocco proper be prepared to keep moving or be swamped by salesmen/beggars etc who wait just outside. Then it's potholed road all the way to Tetouan.

You dont have to pay anybody anything in Ceuta, it is a hassle free entry point (for Africa anyway). Moroccan customs have grey jackeets and pale blue trousers with a black stripe down the side. They are (in my experience) very friendly so long as you arent trying to screw them around (which we sometimes do).

Agree with what Kevin is saying about entry through Ceuta. I was there with a TLC in August. Just ignore the touts and politely give them back the white forms they try to slip through your window. Rather get them from one the windows where you'll see people waiting. The amount of people may be a bit daunting as the gate the Morocco swerves open but they move aside quite readily.

The Moroccon policy are very friendly in my experience as long as all your doc's are in order. On the way back out I saw a Potuguese lady who had lost the slip they give you for the car (temp import license or something of that sort - don't lose it!). They did not give her an easy time.

Diesel was cheap in Ceuta: about eur 0.44/l vs eur 0.6 in Morocco and 0.7 in Spain. Ferry: we paid eur 230 return for a 2.35m high TLC and 2 on board in the departure terminal in Algeciras.

Morocco is very nice (friendly people, excellent food and great countryside) although the kids are annoying at times. For me, the highlight was the Tagounite - Merzouga piste which is perfectly described in Chris's book.

Enjoy!

I'd agree with the comments on it being a fairly easy border.

The only problem I had was that my truck is discribed on its V5 as ambulance bodied. When the girl in the kiosk saw that word 'ambulance' she went very frosty and it ended up with me having the vehicle checked by the customs to sign off that it was in fact a 'camping car' rather than an ambulance - needless to say my 101 ambi has now had the description changed on the v5 (registration document).

Hi Camiel,

My Land Rover is 5.5m long (incl spare wheels), 2.3m high, and 1.8m wide. Do you know if this would be the same price as yor vehicle? I guess yours might be shorter than 5m, which might make a difference.

Thanks for all the info - much appreciated!

It's a little out of date, but when we went to Morocco a year and a half ago, the only difference was the boat you went on. We listened to all the touts, then did the tour of the offices in the port building, stating very clearly that the vehicle was 5.8l x 2.2w x 3.4h and 4 tonnes and they all quoted for a car and wanted to put us on the fast ferry. We were 2 cm too tall for the fast boat and had to back off to let it go... chaos. We had to pay extra to take the slow boat (freight prices http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif ).
Happy travels
Luke

Michael,
My vehicle is just over 5m long but it's really only the height they look at and that is comparable to mine (2.35m). Hence, you should be able to get away with a similar price or less, as I got charged the high car tariff. They also have an even higher tariff for vans but that did not apply to me.

all the best,
Camiel
