flights from Niamey to Paris?
my wife and i will be finishing our sahara trip (which starts in 10 days) in Agadez around christmas and are hoping to take the Air Mediterrannée Agadez-Paris flight (see http://www.zig-zag.tm.fr/vol_sec_agadez.htm). on christmas. but they only have one flight a week and we're hesitant to buy the tix for christmas day now because we know we may get stuck in Agadez for a few unexpected days while we sell our vehicle.
does anyone have reliable information about regular flights from Niamey to Paris? if there are regular flights from there, we can always jump on a bus and blast to Niamey from Agadez after we sell the truck. thanks. cheers, tom [This message has been edited by tmborden (edited 11 November 2004).] |
Last time I did it Air Afrique ran between Paris and Niamey - but it will be more than the Air Med flight.
i would guess. Burkina or Bamako (further) may have more options too. What vehicle are you selling in Agadez, where reg'ed and how much? I may know someone who wants it there unless you have already arranged it. Ch |
our vehicle is a 1985 HJ60 Diesel, registered with export plates in Germany. it has quite a bit of body rust, but is in very good mechanical condition. our mechanic in weinsheim germany is doing some work on it right now and has replaced or repaired everything that was suspect at all.
we paid 3000 euro for it, and will have put about 1500 euro into it in repairs. we don't yet have a buyer lined up for it so we're definitely interested in hearing about that. not sure what we are going to try and get for it in niger because we haven't ever sold a vehicle there before and haven't been able to get much info on the market there. thanks for any direction you can offer. cheers, tom |
chris:
even if your contact in agadez isn't interested in our HJ60, maybe he'll be interested in a load of spare parts and equipment that we'll likely be looking to sell as well? new alternator, water pump, slave cylinder, and a handful of others that we're hoping to not have to use during our trip. also will be selling 5 new jerrycans, water containers, brand new sand ladders/PSP from Daerr. cheers, tom |
Hi
Air Afrique went bankrupt about 2 years ago and the new airline that was propsed to replace them does not appear to have got off the ground yet. However, you can consider Pointe Afrique which does have flights from Niamey to Paris and Marseille. I think there is one flight each week. URL: http://www.point-afrique.com/ Regards Tony |
PS they also fly direct from Agadez to Paris

Hello tmborden,
there are also Air France (direct), Royal Air Maroc, Air Algerie (sometimes cheaper than Point-Afrique) and Afriqjay from Niamey, Air Algerie from Agadez (sometimes) with Stop in Tam and from Ouaga or Gao on other days several flights to Europe. Ferdi |
Hi Tim, I dont think the vehicle is what he wants but good luck with selling it anyway. I think you may need it in Agadez where I have heard the market for used 4x4s has not been very strong for years.
It might be easier to try and sell it direct to a tour agency rather than doing a deal on the street. Chris |
hi chris:
interesting to hear about agadez. where is a good place on that side of the sahara to sell older HJ60 cruisers these days? we're not married to ending the trip in agadez. thanks for the insights. much appreciated. cheers, tom |
Hello tmborden,
nearly everywhere south of Maroc/Algeria/Libya/Egypt is a good place to sell old cars. Ferdi |
