form Nouakchott to Bamako
hi
since you cannot enter Senegal unless you car is less than 5 years old, i am wondering if the route Nouakchott-Aleg-Kiffa-Nema- Bamako is to difficult for 2WD? or even Nouakchott-Kiffa-and hen south to Kayes? thanks for help, spela |
Its alright, road to Nema is okay and heading south from there is managable in a 2wd. Lots of pot holes and rough tracks but certainly possible.

Be careful on this one; the route south from the NKT-Nema road to Mali is not that easy in a 2WD but it is possible. In the rainy season it is virtually impassable. There are several pistes going south from Ayoun onwards the favoured piste changing every year after the rainy season. Ask around in the various towns and keep ur eyes open fo Malian registered cars/trucks for info.

Hi,
2wd should be no prob in the dry,we came through in the wet in a truck and the only problem was the no mans land (adel bugrou to Nara)was very wet and muddy, had to hit a muddy creek crossing and hope for the best. Also been through in the dry and the sand is then quite powdery but not drastic. Avoid nema (the police are a problem) instead take a piste about 30km??????(dont know exactically) before nema and continue south east until you will join a new formed road(south) this will come and go until adel bougrou (easy to follow) in adel bougrou customs are on the east of town and the guy is nice even a word or two of english, immigration is the last hut on the south west of town (and they will want money for stamps) after nara road is formed but corugations are deep. have fun Bo |
