From Mauritanie to Mali

Hi all,
Has anyone recent news regarding crossing from Mauri to Mali?
I'll planning to do it in summer........ and I wonder if it is possible, from Nema, cut East direct to Tilemsi and Tomboctou.
Where is the border crossing?
Bad rumors about that area?

During august, is it normally drivable (4x4 car) the road from Nema to Bamako, and/or from Nema to Segou via Sokolo - Nioro?
This two could be a backup solutions too...

TKS! cheers!

I've read it Saker, tks! but it's a different question...
Infact I would consider quite drivable the track from Nema to Nara with more than 1 4x4 but, the interesting thing is to have fresh infos about Lac Faguibine area...

Any news trom that? Noone passed there recently?
Also suggestions will be appreciate too...

Mauri Mali road

Latest info on the road between Mauri and Bamako via Nioro (I did it yesterday, 3rd October 2006!)

Ayoun to nioro is absolutely fine
the first 20km out of nioro is bad, but feasible. There are 2wd on it, but as it is still rainy season it is muddy
After that the road has been finished - beautiful tarmac all the way to Diama. Must say I was very surprised at this as I did the same journey in June and it was NASTY.
From Diama, it's just about OK to Didiana. It isnt paved and the rains have left alot of ruts and the corrugations are there. Still alot of 2wds go along it OK. If its not muddy its dusty!
From Didiana to Bamako its fine

I hope this helps someone! By the way when you get to Kati and you see signs to Bamako (LV) and Bamako (PL), the LV is longer and for lorries, the PL takes you down the steep hill!

Cheers!

I think most is pretty easy these days

crossed Dec 2005 in a LR Defender Nema Nara Sokolo, Dec THEN was dry and no probs.

crossed july 2006 Ayoune El Atrouse to Niore du Sahel and further on to Diema and Didinier in a MB207. There is some 150km of non sealed road left that can cause some problems. But lots of trafic and trucks that can pull you out if you get stuck.
