Fuel problems in Egypt
Here in Aswan and through the desert there are long long lines for fuel. If you have a problem try the Tourest Police or Army and they may help. Here in Aswan you go to the front on the line. There have been 40 + vehicals waiting but tourests seem to have priority. Top up when ever you can. Lets hope this advice changes soon.
Have a good trip egypt is a great place to visit. |
Took us 3 hrs in Aswan to fuel up and they make a bit problem everywhere when you wanna fill up jerrycans, worked every time but once in Luxor but always discussion involved and people having to convince the petrol dude.
Luxor was possible to get benzin 80 and 92, asyut also. The western desert stretch is tricky, though we found 80 benzin in every oasis but Farafra some days ago, 92 can be tricky. Bahariya 100 meter line of people but they waved us directly to the pump and also let me fill up the 10 liter jerry can for 5 pounds extra fee to the normal fuel price, 1 egyptian pound for 90 benzin . greetings from cairo chris |
Egypt - diesel shortage in the Oasis
Diesel shortage in the Oasis
A few days ago very angry farmers made road blocks between Bahariya and Abu Minqar because since 1 month they havent got fuel! In Bahariya we got diesel from friends, there was no fuel on one station and a very long queue in front of the other. Farafra had no diesel on both stations (begin and end of november). In Cairo I saw many lorries queueing up for diesel. I never saw such a critical situation before. Ursula www.flickr.com/photos/72664388@N00/ |
More info
We just negotiated the western desert rd ok. Filled up in Cairo, near Farafra and at Dhakla (with Diesel). There seemed to be petrol around too.
Again, policy / locals letting us go to the front of queues (sometimes involves showing your face at the front of the queue for a while) Much less fuel in Al Kharga and Luxor though. Our camp site have told us they should be able to help us get some on the black market for about 3EP / litre. |
Aswan status
In Aswan the situation is challenging.
long queues and no diesel (solar). We asked our tourist agent to help in order to fill without loosing a day. It worked (with some bakshish) In Wadi Halfa and Sudan no such issue. |
