has anybodt taken this route recently??
I am planning a december 2008 trip round North africa - my Intended route is:
Morrocco, Western Sahara (????), Mali, Niger (want to visit the Tenere if we can manage it), Libya and maybe Egypt for an ice cold in Alex! I have found various advice but the official line seems to be that this would be possible from a point of view of getting visas? Will this be do-able?? I think I might have to go Niger-Algeria-Libya if I can't get straight from N to L cheers all |
"has anybodt taken this route recently??"
- Yes , during March 07 ; but in the reverse direction ( From Algeria to Mauritania ) . - About visas : you can obtain Mauri's visa at border post ; the other ones can be obtained in consulates in your country . - From Niger , it's a lot easier to go to Lybia via Algeria than directly . RR. |
cheers
thanks for the info
We are now planning to head back from the Tenere into Southern Algeria then up into Tunisia. This will mean shelling out for a guide as far as I am aware (bugger)... as the same will be true in Libya we may just get the ferry back to Italy from Tunis. Any extra advice would be greatly appreciated as always..... |
Regarding visas:
Mauri's visa regulations had been changed after the recent elections... Now at the border they deliver only a 3 day visa... and to extend it to 1 month you have to go to Nouakchott. read this: VoyageForum.com*> Thèmes*> Formalités administratives*> Attention: modification du visa pour la Mauritanie |
will try to keep an eye on the visa situation - do you know if it's possible to get a month visa in Dakar for Mauri? - otherwise might just try and blast through in three days.......

Hi Henry,
As I know, you can obtein it in Casablanca or in Bamako. I can assume the same in Dakar. If not, probably the only sure option is to do it at home, before start. But, your round trip is from East to West? I mean Tunisia to Morocco (via Algeria, Niger, Mali etc...) BTW, these are the refs of Mauri Embassies around your trip plan (hoping to be ok also now) ask and report us what they answer ;-) : ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Embassy of Mauritania in Tunis 17 rue Fatma, Ennachi El Menzah Tunis Tel:216-1-234935/ 216-1-2394699 / Fx: 216-1-750548 Embassy of Mauritania in Alger 107, ilot Baranès- Aire de France Bouzareah, Alger Tel : 213-2-937106/ 213-2-937109 / Fx: 213-2-937108 Embassy of Mauritania in Tripoli Rue Aissa El Wakwak, Tripoli Tel: 218-21- 4443646 / Fx : 218-21- 4443223 Tel: 202-3490671 / 202-3490699 / Fx: 202-7490671 Consulate General of Mauritanie in Niamey Tel : 227-753843; Fx : 227-753945 Embassy of Mauritania in Rabat Souissi II, Villa no 266 O.L.M. thanks for the embassy contacts, must have saved me a good hour or so trawling!
I will get onto them soon once I haved ironed a few more details out. Can't get from Tunis to Morocco so we are doing a sort of horseshoe, Morocco, W.Sahara, Senegal, Mali, Mauri, Niger, Algeria, Tunisia and maybe Libya/Egypt depending on whether or not we can get into the southern deserts (don't fancy a guided tour of the north coast highway, am trying to find out whether or not you can get adventurous guides....) Will keep you posted with developments..... haven't even got the bikes sorted out yet! |
