How do I cross from Morocco to Algeria?
Hi
My planned route: Spain - Morocco - Algeria - Tunis - Sicily - Italy I have so far ridden from London to Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and am now in Spain heading from Seville Tarifa, Malaga and then back tracking to Gibraltar and into Morocco. But I am getting disheartened quickly as from what I am reading there is now way to cross from Morocco to Algeria. But the posts I come across are a few years old so wanted to ask the question again in case there was new info. How do I get from Morocco into Algeria? I traveling alone on a 1200GS with an Australian passport and can speak some Arabic (no French to save myself). I was hoping to spend 2 weeks in Morocco doing an anti-clockwise circuit that would lead me into Algeria. Unlike some of the posts I have read; I have no ego, no Lawrence of Arabia delusions (despite being Arab), no bravado, no interest in out running rebels and want to return with pretty much all of my yellow skin in tact so that I can do this again. Thanks in advance aziz |
How do you cross.....? You don't.
Try either north via Europe or south via Mali and Niger; the first easy, not so interesting, safe, quick and expensive, the second more difficult, far more interesting, potentially unsafe, fairly time-consuming, etc. Presumably you've checked into the various visa and (in the case of Egypt) carnet requirements for Algeria, Libya and Egypt? hope that helps, Mark |
Hi,
>How do I get from Morocco into Algeria? All land borders are closed, so by ship: Morocco -> Spain -> Algeria You need a visa for Algeria, you don't get it at the border. Yves |

You must have missed some as this question comes up on this forum so often I've thought of making it a sticky. Anyway, you'll have a great ride around southern Morocco on the GS and if you're still committed there's a ferry from Nador to Almeria and then Alicante to Oran. Algie visa with no strings can be tricky but have a look here: Important Visa Info Algeria !!! ... - Thorn Tree travel forum - Lonely Planet Most don't need one, but as an Aust you may need a visa for Tunisia too. Worth checking up on. Ch Sahara Overland ~ Country Information |

Melilla or Ceuta?
I'm sure this has been discussed, but i can't seem to find it. Does anyone know if it's possible to take a ferry from say, Oran or Ghazaouet, to either Melilla or Ceuta as they are technically Spanish cities?

No such ferries Nate; only from the European mainland to Alg.
The other day someone was asking me about chartering a boat for him and his bike from Saidia (for example) to Ghazaouet, but I can't see that working either. From Almeria etc it will work for sure. Ch |
thanks
thanks chris.. i thought so but worth a look into..
