How far south does the motorway / dual carriageway go from c
Hi folks,
I'm visiting southern Morocco by road in Oct 2005, and plan to make a fast journey south and then work my way back north via the 'scenic' routes. The question is, after entering the motorway at Tangier, how far south (ie towards marrakech) does it go? I'm working out journey times. (I think it may have been extended beyong what's hsown on the Michelin map). Cheers! Scott. |
Received this info from the MNTO:
The Road from Casablanca to Marrakech is good but the motorway is from Casablanca to Settat only (72 km ). Cheers. |
Hi we have just got back from Morocco and can give you some up to date news. The best route to Marrakesh is prabaly Tangier Rabat Casablanca, then directly south Setta and then Marracek. but it is probaly best to break the trip at least once as riding at night in Morocco is a fairly suicidial occupation. There are too many hazards as with all Africa countries including goats and camels even on the central reservations of the motorways, people crossing the roads at night with no regard for their or your safety. My wife hit a goat in daylight on the Tisin test pass and it dammaged the bike and nearly cuased her to fall. Take care the goat have very little road sense.
If you get the first boat in the morning to Tangier you should make it to Setta in comfort but I would recommend stopping sooner. See the pic for a example of the main road from Mrarrackesh to Adz and http://groups.msn.com/UKTenereOwners...to&PhotoID=179 Adgz westwards http://groups.msn.com/UKTenereOwners...to&PhotoID=181 |
here is a map of the motorways in Morocco and the ones in construction , the motorway between Settat and Marakesh started in 003 and is scheduled in 2007 , and the one from Marrakesh to agadir is scheduled for 2009 , hope this will help , for more infos you can visit :http://www.adm.co.ma/

That's just what I need, thanks to you both. Looks like it will be much easier to get around when the motorways are finished.

The motorway between Agadir and Taroudant is about 50% built now, but is not a highway just a dual carriageway.
Enjoy your trip. Charlie |
I've heard a rumour that unmarried couples have to have seperate hotel rooms in Morocco, can someone please put my mind at rest by dispelling this?
I've not heard of it even in strict muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia. Cheers. |

Umm... You'd better check about this. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office advice to travellers includes this statement:
"Sexual relations outside marriage are also punishable by law." My NEOS guide to Morocco says you can get into trouble too. Maybe there are different standards in different parts of the country, such as Agadir maybe? |

We never even heard about the rule you mention... We had wonderful time and no problems at all. [This message has been edited by pietro.spera (edited 09 January 2005).] |
Another issue has come up now, My car (2001 Suzuki Jimny) runs on unleaded, which I gather is easy to find in Morocco in places like the autoroutes, Marrakech, Ouazarzate, Zagora that we will never be more than a fual tank's range from.
However the car has a fual tank nozzle restrictor fitted, which prevents the larger nozzles of LRP / leaded pumps being inserted. Does anyone know if the pumps is reasonably modern petrol stations in Morocco will fit in there? I've no reason to think they won't, but it would be a long walk back home if we can't fill up because the nozzle doesn't fit... Has anyone taken a modern car / bike over there with the nozzle restrictor fitted? Cheers! |
It's occured to me that I can just use a petrol can to transfer the fuel if there's a problem...
