Can anyone help, we are finding great difficulty in getting an ivitation letter for Libya. We are hoping that 4 of us in 2 vehicles will have a three week trip in Libya over Christmas and New Year. Does anyone have a reliable source??

Hi Sue, have you looked at

I thought that Arkno got his act together...

(if you still have but want to sell the silver bus, a guy in Agadez will have it)

Sue Shuttleworth 21 Oct 2005 21:53

Hi Chris, hope you are well. Did e-mail you on your usual address a few weeks back but no reply - has it changed?
Also - which silver bus are we talking about? we still have the beige Landcruiser plus a left hand drive silver Pickup - did for a while have an Iveco 4 x 4 van but is in Iceland now.
Re Libya, not sure if Martyn has already tried the contact on your page and not got very far so will try again and let you know the outcome - or for a fee could you arrange it for us?
Sue

I try: sari_travel78@hotmail.com, azjartours@yahoo.com, info@arkno.com, info@elmajdco.com, info@shati-zuara.de .
Please if you have any better information, please send me email: filip@weber.cz
I would like go to Libya on motorbike over Christmas and New Year too.

Hi Guys
I'm in Libya at the mo, I also had the same problem of no reply from the tour operators .... so on the way down through Europe I stopped off at the Libyan Embassy in Bern Switzerland. Be it Luck or a sad face I managed to get a 21 day Transit visa, no invitation required, I even stipulated the dates from when to when. The only stipulation was that I enter at Ras Adjir and exit at El Katrun (my request). So far in Libya it's been a breeze, no hassles on my own getting in or through all the paperwork.(joys of motorcycles hey)
I also met two couples in landrovers who arranged tour guides and invitations, not sure who they went through but I'm sure they wont mind if you mail them. www.upthekyhber.co.uk and www.hereandthereinafrica.co.uk
I'm here for another day, there is a tour operator in the hotel, I'll pass on your email - lets see what happens.
Three options, hope this helps
Andy

Did send another e-mail to 'info@caravanserai-tours.com'yesterday and received a reply from Arkno Tours and a guy called Jamal Fteis. So keep trying.
Sue

Jamal is Mr Arkno and Caravanserai (a UK tour operator) works closely with Arkno - so sounds like contacting Arkno via Cara could be the way to get a reply. Telecoms in Libya were pretty terrible years ago and many still resort to European contact points - though you would havew thought they got better by now.

Andy White - glad to hear it's a Libyan breeze for you and not the usual ghibli.

If only it were so easy trying to get a Libyan visa in Cairo. I have been waiting over five weeks now for a 7 day transit visa.......

lucas 23 Oct 2005 05:49

try with arkno , i'm in contact permanent with them last week, they answer realy quickly

lucas 23 Oct 2005 14:58

Redhouse 25 Oct 2005 05:08

It has taken me quite a long time (almost two months) to finally get the covetted invitation fax from Libya. After many calls, I managed to get it through Arkno.
As it happens Jamal is actually in th UK at the moment. He can be reached on the following number: +44 161 682 5063.

Good luck!

hello,

just wondering, does the invitation letter mean that one can travel without a guide?

we are also travelling to libya over christmas, but are still looking for a second vehicle or group we may be able to join.

regards
ulf

Hi,
We(6people and 3 cars) are on the 19 december in Libya and we have had our invitation via "four seasons" farhatgahuagi@hotmail.com

No. But some travellers have invited their escort (not really a guide) to go home after a few days and had no problems down south. Except Akakus NP. Here you must have a guide which you arrange in Ghat.

I got visa trough Czech tourist agency. But I don’t have information who arrange in Libya. I will pay on Libyan border:
- invitation and visa = 75 Eur.
- stamp to passport = 15 Eur.
- border formalities = 130 Eur. ( 1 motorbike ).
- help on border = 50 Eur. (for all group)
- permit for little group up to 5people, without guide = 260 Eur (for all group)

People from Libya called to my mobile phone me and said me instruction for border!

thanks, confirms what all the travel agents have told me so far, i.e that i need an escort not that i can "loose" him of course.

we (me and my range rover) are still looking for a second car or group we can join for libya over christmas, so if anyone is going we would be happy to hear from you.

kind regards
ulf

Robert,

We(two brothers and their father 2 cars4x4) are also planning to descend Libia to Niger, starting the week before Xmas. How long did it take you to get your invitation?
Please send me an e-mail to exchange some info.
