Knobbies in Tunesia
Anybody know where I could get some decent knobbies for my Tenere (90/90-21 front, 130/80-17 or 140/80-17 rear) in Tunesia? I don't want to ruin perfectly good tires on European tarmac and I'd also prefer buying them in Tunesia instead of taking them with me all the way.
Will be entering Tunesia via Tunis by ferry from Genova, Italy. |
Take with as it's unlikely you can buy such tyres in Tunisia - and if you can they won't be cheap. 98% of bikes in North Africa are mopeds or a few 125s.

Not good, but doable. Thanks. That said I'm not even sure anymore I really need knobbies. Since we'll be travelling two-up and won't be doing anything too extreme (some dirt riding of course, and sand down South) something like the Heidenau K60 or Conti's TKC80 should do.
Just read the chapter about Tunesia in your book, you don't seem too fond of it ;) How come? |
Hi,
what about changing the tyres in France or Italy before entering the ferry? Last summer it took my 2hrs to find a rear tyre for my BMW K100 and change it in Grasse (did it myself otherwise I would have had to wait 1 day). Probably I was lucky. If you speak French or Italian it mighty be possible to order and prearrange the swap from abroad. |
Heidenau K60 or Conti's TKC80
yes, both good tyres, though I've never tried a K60. Re:Tunisia, IMO, it's a long way and expensive ferry for not that much when compared to Morocco. Better seen as a stepping stone to Algeria or Libya. Ch |
Fortunately, it's pretty close from southern Germany, and a lot closer and cheaper than Morocco. Anyway, would you say that TKC80s are good enough for Tunesia or should I get something that is better suited for dirt riding?
Yves: that is a good idea, I could maybe organize something in Genova since we'll probably be spending an entire day there. |
MJ - consider fitting Heidenau's K60's - an excellent all-rounder tyre-
I still haven't found anywhere these can't go aside from deep mud ponds! |
Thanks for your input Bertrand. I have considered K60s. Infact I'd very much prefer them over TKC80s. If I remember correctly you had them on your BMW in Ober-Liebersbach last fall and now that I think about it I also remember talking to you about them and asking for your opinion...
Thanks again, I'll go with K60s. That also solves the initial problem :) |
Yep- you did see them there Martin and we did have a chat!
Zu Viel Apfelwein again? well it was delicious! stay well amigo:thumbup1: |
