Ksar Ghilane to Douz, Tunisia
Hello all,
I'm looking for any information about the the track(s) between Ksar Ghilane and Douz, Tunisia. Has anyone travelled this way recently? Wondering if the track is reasonably clear and straightforward to follow, and how much of the distance is heavy sand. Any information very gratefully received. Thankyou! |
Are you asking about cutting through the national park (and dunes) or taking actual roads ?

Ahhhh sorry about that I should have been more specific. I meant heading pretty much NW direct Ksar Ghilane to Douz. I have a map (Reise Tunisia 1:600000) that shows a direct track. It runs north of the Jebil National Park boundary. I am wondering if tour operators from Douz who take clients to Ksar Ghilane go this direct route.

All the tour vehicles that I've seen were taking the sealed road (C211). That road has plenty of blowing sand already. I can't imagine that old track being a viable option without recovery gear. Why would a tour operator want to deal with that when the sealed route is certainly going to take far less time?

I imagine most tourists visit the area to have a 'desert experience'. I would have thought a 4WD trip down the track would be very popular with tourists.

Yes, tour operators who offer real Sahara desert experiences, including us (SaharanSky Tunisia), take that desert route from Douz to Ksar Ghilane via Jebil National Park. You will find a clear path, but it does disappear in some parts. We can share the GPS coordinates with you if you wish.
