Laayoune to Smara by desert
 

Hellou...

I'm gona visit Morocco and Western Sahara on the bike. I wanna ride the desert track from Laayoune to Smara through Lemseyed and Al-Gaada oasis... Is there any landmines problem?
There's info on Sahara Overland that there are mines alongside Laayoune-Bir Morgrein road... My planned route is quite near to this road...

The United Nations MINURSO mission is still active in the Western Sahara. Their overall HQ is situated in Laayoune, and their Northern Sector HQ is situated in Smara. They ought to know.

It’s a long shot, but you could try writing directly to them.

Alternatively try William Lacy Swing, the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Western Sahara, at the UN HQ in New York.
