Link beween Egypt or Norther Africa to Europe
Link between Egypt and Europe.
I am at the time in Tanzania driving north towards Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt. Now all bureaucracy, visa, carnet and alike is done. Now I just need to solve the last ‘obstacle’, finding a link from Egypt or northern Africa to Europe. I’m traveling on a motorcycle, and I know that posts in this topic has been mentioned before, but it seems like no one can give a updated solutions on this? Kind Regards Colin Kochannek Jensen |
Hi colin
Good to hear all the paperwork is sorted. Out of interest where did you get your Ethiopia and Sudan visas? On the from Egypt to Europe i just got a quote for flying my bike from Cairo to London. It was £1295. Will leave others to comment on alternatives but interested to hear the answer (i'm doing the same summer 2016). Cheers Andy |

egypt-turkey connections..
Agreement is not extended and 3 days ago current Egypt military government closed all ports to ships from Turkey..
Nomore connection to Turkey for a long time..probably same for other destinations too... Besides expensive airfreights with the worst egypt paperworks, making israel via egypt seems the only option for seafreights to transport the vehicles......turkish export containers started taking this way for arab and gulf countries. Things change so fast in this area...currently Tiran may bring the solution for the transport of vehicles by sea to/from europe. Done by several friends this year and passengers are not accepted in this option...If you prefer to iskenderun turkey shipping for the vehicle, flights from telaviv to adana with istanbul connection are between 140-180 usd.at the moment, easy paperwork at iskenderun port.. According to the messages ı get, many travellers are stuck in north east africa and looking for a solution to reach europe.. Some has choosen the expensive airfreights without entering egypt..And also many travellers from europe are on the road to enter africa, some already in anatolia even with side cars without being aware of this problem..There is no guarantee and dont buy online tickets for sealine connection to egypt....That was in calm years.. will be best to keep this thread alive and share experiences for the following travellers... All the best... |
Hi Colin,
It may be worth checking French Ro Ro vessel sailing twice monthly from Djibouti to Marseille . I don't have any current information, but it was running in 2013. Cheers. |
Hi Oceanjoy
Most interested in your comment about the French ro-ro service to Djibouti. Do you have any contact details (company or person)? I'm planning a trip to Europe from RSA and the problem is the last mile...from N. Africa to Europe. email: crwaterhouse(at)yahoo(dot)com Regards |
Djibouti is a major hub in the Red Sea. Accessing Djibouti from Ethiopia or Somaliland is fairly easy while it takes time to release any vehicle from Djibouti port when arriving from somewhere else.
There are several options from Djibouti: Maersk runs a service to Salalah in Oman which is their regional hub. From there you could continue through Oman and the UAE to Iran. There are connections to Aqaba in Jordan, from where you could continue to Palestine / Israel and on to either Greece (Salamis) or Italy (Grimaldi). As said, there are other connections straight to Europe. MAERSK is always a good option as is CMA-CGM. There is some French in this but the ownership is actually Lebanese ... Please check the search option - there are several posts with regard to Djibouti. Greetings, Achim |
Do you have an idea about the costs for the ferry Djibouti-Oman?

We drove sudan-saudi-jordan-israel and Salamis ferry to Greece. Easypeasy.

Hey guys, what about going overland, south sinai, border crossing at Taba, through Jordan, Israel, and then shipping from Haifa to Greece...?!
