Mali securing the desert to promote tourism
 

In the summer doldrums, some good news from Mali.
It is now the stated goal of the Malian government to secure the desert to promote tourism, which used to provide 15% of the GDP.

Tourism has fallen over 50%. Now the army has set up 11 camps in the desert and also reinforced border patrols.

Mali hope that the Dogon exhibition in Paris, which has attracted 150,000 visitors, will revive tourism in Mali.
As ATT, the Malian president quipped:
"If you're not going to the Dogon, the Dogon people will come to you,"
