Mauretania- Marocco land crossing
 

Hi, everybody!
I am in Bamako right now.
Becouse I am from XY country I cant get visa for Senegal. So I will try to go back solo to Europe by bush taxi on the road: Nema- Nkct- Chum- West Sahara- Marakesh- Casablanca- Spain
If anybody has any info about this trip in this direction please let me know.
Specialy I am interested about land mines, geting Marocco visa in Nkct
- I hear that you need plane ticket to get it-
and about crossing Mauretania- W Sahara border.
I plan to leave Bamako in saturday.
Of course I am also looking for some other way of transport if somebody is heaving any idea.

Min. cost of plane ticket from Bamako is 550 euro to Roma or Paris. All my team from the trip will take this flight.

Go to Air Algerie and find out the price of a flight there, they used to charge €300-320 to Paris. Try to get the Moroccan visa in Bamako, it may be easier. Public transport is available easy to Atar and from there there is usually a couple of pickups to Choum in the morning. Ask in Nouabhibou in the campsites about bush taxis going to Dakhla, they charge between €50-645 one way.

What I do not understand is why you can not get a visa for Senegal? Barbara my girlfriend who is Slovene managed to get a visa for Senegal but in Mauritania /Nouakchott. Barbara managed to get a visa for every West African country on the way down (transatlantic route) with no problem. Okay we went the other way down, from North to South but I can't see why you can not do it the other way round unless some countries have changed their legislation with the current world tensions.

On our trip down we met some French travellers going back up from Mauritania back to Morocco and then back to France. They told me that the boarder back into Marocco was now possible as long as you had some spare cash and knew the right police and custom contacts. These guys did as they were very accustomed to Western Sahara and had travelled many years in the region. I was also told that the Mauritanian boarder with Morocco could sometimes prove difficult depending on the modd of the police but that generally a good bribe put that problem straight. Janez, I would try and get to Nouakchott and from there find some vehicles or trucks going the otherway ( revers of the transatlantic route)back to Dahkla and then a straight run home.

I would go for it and try and get back to Europe, with a bit of persuasion and some Slovene charm and negotiating skills I don't see any problem. Former Yugoslavia (and Slovenia) were always very close to the West African countries due to a similar political process - worth reminding this to them, helped me a great deal when travelling.
