Mauretania to Western Sahara - advise sought
 

Does anybody have experience with crossing the border between Mauretania and Marocco from south to north?
I understand from the Lonely Planet guide that crossing this way is forbidden by the Mauretanian governement.
Thanks for any help!

The crossing northwards has been officially open for a year or more.
