Hi Luis,
M6 (S.O.) has only one short but difficult sandy section- Hassi Remlia (AFAIR 5-10km). Apart from this there are only some short streches of sand, rather easy to cross because you can maintain your speed.

R2 is a different story. Most of the time you will be riding in the sand. A good offroader on a hard enduro shouldn't have any problems but if you are riding on sth 200kg+ you might become little bit fatigued at the end;) In other words- it might be a challege for some people (everything depends on skills and experience).

What is also worth mentioning is that from NDB to Atar (avoiding Choum), R2 is more than twice the distance of MS6. On a fuel guzzling Africa Twin that is a lot of extra fuel weight - 35 litres or more? And it only eases up after KM400...

As Tomek says, it will be a little bit fatiguing.

Thank you for the feedback.

I know (read, been told) the nature of R2 and your useful posts reinforce my idea.

It is something that requires a different planning compared to Moroccan pistes. Must remember: fuel is distance, water is time ;)

I rode south past Bou Lanouar this February on the new tarmac road and stopped there for a moment looking at the east-bound piste along the rail way... :mchappy:
