Mauritania In August !!!
My question from your experience......is it workable???
i would appreciate your feedback if somebody did try it in August. thanx Che |
Sorry to insist.....nobody did it around july / August / September!!
|
I'm sure its possible but a lot easier if you have a car rather than a moto.
July and August is seriously hot in Mauri, even just 30 km from the coast. Mauri is on the edge of the Saharan heat low which is one of the hottest places on the planet. On some days there are strong winds from Atlantic over northern Mauri which keep the temperature to the mid 30s. If the winds start coming from the central Sahara (north easterly winds) then the days start in the 30s with afternoons in the high 40s. On a moto that is dangerous heat. It is difficult to drink enough. July and August are also the months when the dust storms are most active. Mauri is on the western edge of the largest source of dust storms on the planet. In addition to making conditions unpleasant at the time of the storms, the visibility is normally very poor - say less than 5km and during a storm <50m. |
