I read on routard.com that they deliver 3-days visas at the border (marocco-mauritanie) for 20 euro. Is there someone who can confirm that?

Whatever you read wherever you read it - you must do your own research - Things change rapidly in Africa.
Your dad has a few choices:

1- buy visas in Paris at the Mauritanian Consulate
2- buy visas in Rabat (I've already posted the location in this thread)
3- Or take your chances and travel a long way to the frontier (and risk being turned back to Rabat if they say no- unlikely but nevertheless, possible.)

If you take (3) you will probably get a 3 day transit visa which you can extend in NCK but it takes time and more $

Remember that offices close Friday lunchtime and do not re-open until Monday morning.
He can get Mali Visas in Bruxelles in Belgium.

Hi, Does anyone have the latest (August 2009) on wether visas are issued at the Mauritanian border to pass into the country or is still at rabat ? thanks martin

I got mine at rabat in 1 day for around 30 euros for the 1st of august. When I passed the border in august they were also issuing visas there and not checking any cars for cheap diesel.
