We just insisted on a receipt and they said they 'don't have a receipt book', so we could go without paying, it's nothing more than a bribe :censored: |
hello
great info. So it is not necessary to get a visa in advance. Has anybody got about mali. Same question. Can you get your visa at the border and how much for the visa. And does anybody know the same from senegal. thanks brend |
Hi Brend
We crossed into Senegal under 2 weeks ago and were charged 10 Euros each to get a stamp in our passports - we do not need a visa with a British passport and I think all EU countries are the same. Our friends also crossed at Diama a few days later and they were all charged 10 Euros too. FYI: We were not allowed to use our carnet for Senegal and had to buy a temporary carnet for 2,500 CFA - again our friends were all charged the same amount. I hope this helps. Kate JeanVisser - We all have different experiences crossing borders... we were sitting at the Mauritanian border at 8pm in the pitch black just trying to get though. They had processed over 200 vehicles that afternoon due to the continual flow of 'rallys' that pass across this border. They were extremely pissed off that they were still working and it was very obvious they were not going to negotiate with us over this matter. I don't just hand money over to people. I tried not to pay it but it was very clear to me that the only way to get on the road was to pay. |

Hi There, just looked at your website and think that you are the people that I met at the Service station just before Nouakchott a couple of weeks ago! I was the guy in the 4x4 who asked the manager if you could stay there!
Good luck with your trip Mike:thumbup1: |
thanks for info...............one more question....what about a multiply-entry-visum for mauritanie. At the border too? or just buy a single-entry-visum twice. We are a family going there in summerholiday and don't like to pay 5 x 20euro and then on the way home again 5 x 20 euro.
thanks brend |
You can get a double entry visa in Rabat but it costs twice the price so no saving, but a bit less hassle.

this morning I tried to cross from Mali to Mauri at Nioro. They are no longer issuing visas at this border crossing, and turned me away. Coming from the south you can get a visa at Bamako. If only I'd known before leaving Bamako yesterday...
the nice men on the Mali side let me away without purchasing a new Mali visa, so some silver lining was had. |
