More Tyre Questions
So here's the story.
Following a wholly bizarre month in which I've so far killed my beloved 300TDI County 110 and then stumbled upon a brilliant Camel Trophy Discovery, I now find myself about to depart on an eight month trek from Spain to Cape Town in a car that I bought yesterday. Sounds bad I know. Even worse, the Dicovery came with 5 of the original trophy mud wheels and 4 Michelin XPCs, which are now out of production. I don't really fancy the mud tyres (7.00x16?), but if I get 2 new wheels can I pair up say 2 Michelin ATs with two of the old XPCs, and if so which should go where? Also sods law says I'll end up with 3 good XPCs and only one good AT - what will this do to the handling as a short term stop gap? Are the Synchrones a better option? What about mixing brands, as I dearly loved my BFG ATs (and so apparently did the Spaniards who stole them)? I'm carrying a tubeless repair kit (plugs) - does anybody have any experience with these? Life was so much easier with a Defender.... TIA Peter |
Hi Peter,
I've driven to Senegal, via Atlantic route, and back with 2 Michelin Synchrones in the front and 2 Michelin XPC 4x4 in the rear (of course both were the same size - 205x16) without any problem whatsoever. Hope this helps, José |
Phew - that's a relief - I'm a little concerned that the M+S designation means that they wouldn't be up to the job....
Thanks for the reassurance, Peter |
