Mori PM assassination attempt
... or just an unfortunate accident?
Dont know if this could affect travel or visas... BBC News - Mauritania President Abdelaziz shot and wounded |
According to reports shot by military "by mistake" as he was driving to his house in Tweila 40 kms north of Nkt. Could be interpreted as:
- a coup attempt - a terrorist attack by someone inspired by or connected to Aqim - a mistake The sort of thing that could change the rules for travelling in the country, but so far not what I have heard. Terrorist attack or complot? |
I hope it does not effect visas, I will be applying for mine in Rabat in a few weeks, hope it all cools down by then
|
kingkurt -- please let us all know how your visa process in Rabat goes!

The young lieutenant perpetrator went on national television to explain his mistake.

So ... no turbans or fast driving around THERE then!!
|
Also asked about this, several people from the policeman to a government employee. All agree and present the following explanation:
The president decided , for some unknown reason, to drive on his own in an unmarked car in the desert in a restricted zone. When challenged, by a shot being fired in the air, he did not stop- hence his wounding. Apparently after the incident the president apologised for not respecting the rules of military check points. Sounds just a little odd but that is what everyone has said. |
