Moroccan Motorway Times
Its been a while since I've been in the north or Morocco and they seem to have been busy extending motorways. (and I see its extending south with the Agadir - Marrakesh construction).
Does anyone know the rough journey times by car from Cueta to Fez if you go by the coatal motorway and is it quicker than heading inland past Chefchaouen (I've noted the useful warnings about the Rif via Ketama). Similalry has anyone done the motorway route from Fez via Casa to Marrakesh -and if so how long? Finally the time from Marrakesh to Tangier - I'm reckoning on about 9 hours - is that right? From driving a fair bit in the South I've developed a paranoia about speed traps (so will generally be keeping under the limits)! Any estimates of the above much appreciated Cheers Guy |
Marrakesh to Cueta when I come back in March this year took us 7 to 8 hours and that was 3 land rover motorway N9 to Casablanca Rabat to just North past Larache turn right on to the R417 good short cut to Tetouan then to Cueta
Cueta to Fez by Chefchaouen over the Rif did't stop there it was ok apart from the rif lorrys can take a bit of time to get past them 6 1/2 to 7 hours that was with 8 land rover in convoy and some that had never been to Morocco before so had to get use to the driving over there. We did have a lot of stops so would think you could do it in 4 to 5 hours that way don't know how long it would take by the coatal motorway hope this is of some help to you Dave |
A few weeks ago I left my Tag Heuer watch in the Ibis in Fnediq (next to Ceuta) so rode back from Fes to pick it up. The route via Chefchaouen took so long! It was much quicker coming back to take the *NEW* motorway (opened March) from Fnediq to Tanger, then pick up the motorway running south down the Atlantic coast to Rabat, then east to Fes.

Thanks to you both.
Thats some useful steers on times and should help my planning. Tim - hope the watch was still there (I've always had good experiences of Ibis, in maroc and elsewhere. My son left a teddy bear in one in France and a call two days later had them tracking it down and posting to the UK together with a very sweet note!) Cheers Guy |

Hi Sergio, it's nice to hear you from these pages!
we are (as italians) a small part of it, but we've enough strenght to face great challenges. i'm from Milan i'd gathered together a lot of experience along my overland trips, and i'll be glad to share it with each others, expecially if they're from my same country. well, i rode through morocco 2 years ago, heading to dakar; the only thing they'd ask me, was a local insurance policy. they says it's mandatory for foreigners vehicles, but i refused to sign it up one once landed in nador. i saved about 70euros, but if i had had a road accident, things gone get worst for me. i suggest you to have a policy once there, it will aid you to ride quiet. for any other suggestion, have a look on my web site, you could find some good mean to plan a trip like that. or at least, write me! hi Sergio,
it's nice to hear you for me too. i'm glad as my pictures increase you the wish for leaving. take photos in morocco; i always ask it for in advance, to avoid nasty situations with the locals. i only had a trouble in Marrakech with a couple of bad young guys wich blamed me for my shooting. for all the rest, no problem. if may you need info and suggestion about where to go, i'm at your disposal. have anice trip. |
