Morocco & onward
I would like to travel through Morocco during July & August 2006 for about 6 weeks I would to venture further on i.e. Timbuktu or Senegal
would I have enough time to do either locations without to much of a rush . Which of the two is easier to get to any input would be gratefully received cheers Eric |
My wife and I are looking into riding two vintage Vespas from Tanger to Dakar (heavily modified), hopefully as early as July 2006 (yes, we are aware of the scorching heat, etc).
I think the distance is about 3200 km. We planned doing it in 3-4 weeks, travelling about 200 kms a day, some days maybe 300-400 kms that. It will be rushing it a bit, and it will be hell, just the way we want it. |
ejds,
Think you will be fine for time, I cycled from tanger to dakar in july this year in 5 weeks without feeling that I was rushing it. |

Thanks for your reply can you tell me what paper work I need to cross the borders and where to get it. My Land Rover is equipped for camping is it possible to find campsites after Morocco and into Senegal cheers Eric |
As far as border formalities, I think by bicycle they are generally easier than car, so I couldn't tell you what papers you may need to get your LR over the borders. Apart from a $50 visa payment on arrival at the Mauretanian border, I did not have to do much else. http://www.sahara-overland.com/ may provide more info on this.
Regarding campsites, through western sahara, mauretania and senegal I always camped on the side of the road. There is not much in the way of campsites in these areas. Hope this helps Ben |
